오늘 회화에선 다른 나라랑 문화 비교하는 내용을 다루었는데 나에게 2가지 문제점이 있었다

1. 해외 문화 잘 모름

2. 그렇다고 해서 한국 문화도 잘 모름

나는 대체 어느 문화에 속한 사람인걸까...?

Theme: Culture

  • If you go to someone’s house, you should always take off your shoes.
  • In China, it’s polite to leave some food on your plate.
  • Most French people don’t take good care of their cars.
  • If you go to a wedding in Malta, the guests should be received a gift by bride and groom.
  • In Japan, it’s not unusaual to fall asleep on someone while on public transport.

2.  Share information about foreign cultures

Direct question & Indirect question

주로 direct question을 indirect question으로 바꾸는 연습 위주로 진행했다

Indirect question 쓰는 상황

잘 알지 못하는 사람과의 대화 또는 공적인 자리와 같이 격식 차리는 상황에서 사용

ex 1) Where is the department store? → Could you tell me where the department store is?

ex 2) What is his name? → Do you know what his name is?

Rule 1

Indirect questions are formed of two parts: a polite expression and a question that places the verb after the subject unlike a direct question.

격식표현 및 질문 내에서 직접적인 표현이랑은 다르게 목적어 뒤에 동사가 옴

  • 예시

  •  practice

Rule 2

Indirect questions do not use the helping verbs do, does or did!

대신 직접질문에서 사용하는 보조동사의 시제와 수를 확인하여 동사 시제, 수 일치 시켜줄 것

cf) 몰리쌤이 Do를 빼버린다라고 설명해주실때 take out ‘do’라고 표현!

  • 예시

  •  practice
    1. Where does Bus 119 go to? → Could you tell me where Bus 119 goes to?
    2. How do you spell your last name? → Could you tell me how your last name spelt?
    3. When does the boat leave? → Do you know when the boat leaves?
    4. Who does this book belong to? → Do you know who this book belongs to?
    5. Why does the shop close so early? → Do you know why the shop closes so early?

Rule 3

When the direct question is a yes/no question, the indirect question uses the word if and the word order of a normal positive sentence.

직접적으로 묻는 질문의 대답이 네, 아니오 일 때, 간접 질문은 polite expression 뒤에 if + 평서문(주어+동사+ ~)

  • 예시
    • Does Sophia live in New Yourk? → Do you know if Sophia lives in New York?
    • Is the restaurant closing now? → Can you tell me if the restaurant is closing now?

  •  practice

  • Polite expression
    • Could you tell me ~
    • Do you know ~
    • I was wondering ~
    • Do you mind ~
    • Would it be possible ~
    • Is there any chance ~
cf) 상대에 관한 정보를 물어볼때 Do you know~ 를 사용하면 좀 어색하다.
    • ex) (상대의 직업을 물어볼때)
      • 직) What is your job?
      • 간) Could you tell me what your job is? (O) / Do you know what your job is? (어색)

Todays Activity

주어진 상황(scenario)에 맞게 indirect question을 만들어보기!

class에게 물어볼 indirect questions

  1. Could you tell me when you slept last night?
  2. Could you tell me what you recently read a book? → which book you read recently?
  3. Do you know when the monsoon season ends?

Can과 Could의 차이

  • could는 can의 과거형이 맞긴하지만
  • 질문에 있어서는 과거의 의미로 사용하는게 아니라 Could는 좀 더 공손하게 질문할 때 사용됨

babysit 동사였다!

썸/사귀는것 관련된 표현

  • ask someone out ~에게 데이트 신청하다
  • be seeing someone 누군가랑 썸타는 중이다
  • be dating someone 누군가랑 썸타는 중(썸~사귀기 직전의 사이의 의미인듯)이다
  • go out with 사귀다

짝 지어서 하는 그룹 활동이 간만에 하니까 재밌다ㅎㅎ

  •

    • playing badminton
    • riding on a roller coaster
    • looking in the mirror
    • listening to hip hop music
    • **having a massage
    • doing you homework
    • carrying a bag

    • running up some stairs
    • writing a love letter
    • waiting for the bus

이외에도 우리 조에서 몇가지 present continuous sentences 작성해서 다른 조와 교환

우리 조 중에서도 내가 쓴 것만 기억나는 것만 기록함ㅎㅎ

  • washing the dishes
  • doing yoga
  • watering plants
  • playing game

**<Phone Etiquette>

having a message 표현이 낯설어서 추가 검색!

그룹활동에서는 파트너 분이 texting 처럼 설명해주셨는데 그런 의미가 아닌듯 하다

having a message 구글링하니 잘 안쓰는 말이라고 함

  • taking a message: 전화를 받은 사람이 메모 남기는 것
  • leaving a message: 전화를 건 사람이 메모 남기는 것
    • ex) Can I taking/leaving a message?
    • taking ~ 원래 수신인이 부재여서 대신 누군가가 전화를 받았고, 메모 남겨드릴까요?의 뉘앙스
    • leaving ~ 수신인이 부재여서 대신 받은 사람에게 메모 좀 남겨주시겠어요?

  • have a message는 수신인이 돌아왔을때 건네주면서 할 수 있는 표현인듯 함
    • ex) I have a message for you
  • get a message: 누군가가 남긴 메모를 전달 받았을 때
    • ex) I got your message thorough him

  • have, know, want, need, like는 진행형 X
  • 단, 경험, 근황, 미래의 일을 얘기할 때는 진행형 가능
    • I’m having a wonderful weekend
    • having fun…etc.
  •
